Why does water not stagnate in the forest even after heavy rainfall?

Dear Student, Forests act as an agent for retention of water. Forests have rooted trees and hence water is retained strongly between the particles of soil. Forested catchments provide water for agricultural, domestic, and industrial purposes. Forest acts as the best land cover to maximize water yield and ensure water quality. Further, Forests act as a natural absorber of rain water. The roots of the trees absorb the water and allow it to seep into the soil. This way forests prevent the stagnation of water. Regards
