why hydrogen not used as a fuel ?

HYDROGEN is not used as a fuel even though it has the highest clarofic value for the following points:-

  1. It is lighter than air and thus it is not easily available.
  2. it is flammable and burns very rapidly.
  3. it cannot be used in liquid form bcoz it melting point is -253 degree C.
  4. it cannot b transported easily.
  5. Hydrogen gas leaking into external air may spontaneously ignite.
  6. Moreover, hydrogen fire, while being extremely hot, is almost invisible, and thus can lead to accidental burns
  7. Hydrogen poses unique challenges due to its ease of leaking, low-energyignition, wide range of combustible fuel-air mixtures,buoyancy, and its ability toembrittle metals

Hydrogen can be used as a fuel, but it's difficult to handle and it does not occur naturally so has to be produced either by electrolysis or chemical process. It may become more important in the future if natural gas (methane) runs out, but at the moment there is plenty of natural gas in the world and more is still being discovered. Hydrogen powered cars have been demonstrated but they are not serious contenders for the mass market.

Hydrogen gas production is very expensive so it is not used generally as fuel but it is used in rocket fuels some time where liquid form or water is applied.
