Why is N2 + O2 gives 2NO an endothermic reaction. Whereas all other oxidation reactions are exothermic?
The triple bond between two N atoms in N2 is very strong due to small size and thus has a high dissociation energy.Due to this a large amount of energy is required to break this bond and thus the oxidation of N2 is endothermic.
