Why isnt I=4I'cos^2(phi/2) used as formula to calculate intensity in this question?

In the first question we can use this formula Malus law. Because this formula is applicable only on the light rays and lenses. But in the others questions the light ray and slits are present. Hence we can not use Malus low there.
