Why ovule is ditegmic in monocots

Dear student.

Ovules of monocot have two multicellular integuments, that is why it is referred as a bitegmic ovule. Outer integument forms hard, leathery outer seed coat or testa and inner integument gives rise to inner seed coat or tegmen. Integument provides protection to the ovules.
