Why people do not consider dalit as equal ,even though laws says it?

In spite of equality in law, people refuse to think as equal. The age old customs and traditions restrict people to do so. People have followed the system of caste and gender discrimination from the past and it has deep- rooted into the society. As a result, discrimination and inequality could not be completely eradicated from the society. For example, even though untouchability in banned by the Constitution, people in some parts of the country still discriminate against Dalits and people of lower caste. Sometimes, people of lower caste are even prevented from entering temples. Similarly, women are prevented from entering some temples even though that is illegal.
