why pluto is not considered as a planet

Hi Roshan!

A planet is defined as a celestial body orbiting a star or stellar remnant that is rounded by its own gravity and has cleared its orbit.

There are many bodies like Pluto orbiting in the orbit of Pluto. These objects are known as Kuiper belt objects. The Pluto is a dwarf planet in the Kuiper belt. Pluto is not considered as a planet as it is not cleared the orbit.

Cheers!!

Pluto from its discovery in 1930 till 2006, it was considered as the ninth planet in the solar system. However, Pluto was taken out from the list of planets by the International Astronomical Union. In 2006, a new definition of planets was adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). According to this definition, Pluto does not qualify to be a planet. It is now considered as a Dwarf Planet.
