Why was Andrew so serious and tensed that evening?

Andrew’s friend Joe had called him to see to his pregnant wife. After twenty years of marriage, Joe and his wife were going to have a baby. Whilst seeing to the mother and the baby, Andrew was naturally serious because he had the responsibility of saving two lives at once. Moreover he was busy thinking about his disappointing evening with his girlfriend Christine. To make matters worse, the child came out as a stillborn. He became unnaturally tense at this moment, as he tried to desperately think of a way in which he could save the child.
