the constitution of india was signed and adopted in part on 26th nov 1949 which is celebrated as law day...

but all its provisions were adopted on 26th january 1950 in order to honour the pledge of poorna swaraj taken at the lahore congress on 26th jan 1930...this day 26th jan is celebrated as republic day in india...hope i helped :-)

The constitution of India was adopted on 26 January 1950 because at that Lahore session of the Congress in December 1929 ,it was decided that 26 January would be celebrated as the day of Purna Swaraj or complete independence. So ,when India became independent ,26 January was chosen as the day to declare India a Republic.
