WILL A STRONG MAGNET ATTRACT A PIECE OF COPPER? GIVE REASONS.

Dear Student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:

If you have a strong enough magnetic field then every matter is magnetic. But, copper is attracted to the highly magnetic neodymium magnets, which have strong enough magnetic field to attract the copper. But, since copper is diamagnetic and has no unpaired electrons therefore it does not get attracted by the less stronger magnets. But, if the magnet is strong enough it is able to attract the copper.

The neodymium magnets when interact with copper they induce eddy currents in the copper, which in turn generates magnetic field around the copper coil. Now this magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field of the magnet to achieve the desired effect which can be either of attraction or repulsion depending upon the direction of the current.
