Will researchers really be able to use genetics to help us live both longer and healthier?

Dear student.

Yes, researcher can use the knowledge of genetics to help us live longer and healthier. It can be done by the following ways:

1. Karyotyping:  Karyotype is a term used to denote a complete set of chromosomes possessed by an organism. It is also used to describe the appearance of chromosomes when seen through a microscope.  Karyotyping is a study that detects chromosomal abnormalities, it helps in prenatal diagnosis.

2.  Pedigree analysis: It is the analysis of inheritance of traits in several generations of a family. A particular trait under study is represented in a family tree. By using pedigree analysis, inheritance of a specific trait, abnormality or disease, can be traced.

3. Genome sequencing:  It provides the knowledge of the effects of variations of DNA among individuals can revolutionize the ways to diagnose, treat and prevent many diseases that affect humans. It also provides clues to the understanding of human biology. It helps to find out the human evolution. Identification through DNA forensics is also possible.

4. Genome editing:  With the help of Genome editing, DNA can be inserted, deleted or replaced in the genome of a living organism.

The answer to this question is a bit confusing. But I think that it might be possible in future for the upcoming future generations. But now it is not possible at the current stage.
