If 1/3 of a number exceeds its 2/7 by 1,find the number.

 Let the number be x.

1/3 of x= x/3 

exceeds its 2/7 i.e. 2x/7 by 1

Therefore x/3=2x/7+1

= x/3=2/7+7/7

=7x=6x+21

= x= 21
