Birsa Munda is considered to be the “Bhagawan” of Jharkhand. Birsa was a tribal leader who made his men realize that their lands were gradually been taken over by the British and that they were being reduced to the rank of bonded labours in their own lands. He had organised his first protest march for remission of forest dues.

Birsa Munda was born in Ulihatu in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He gained huge opularity among the masses so much so that he was almost revered as GOD. He advocated the rights of the Mundasas real proprietors of the soil and sought to abolish the existence of middlemen. In 1895 Birsa Munda a young boy emerged as a hero of tribals . He urged them to work on their land to earn their living. This would end all their sufferings. As the Birsa movement  spread , the popularity of Birsa munda also increased. This movement ended with his death in 1900.
