The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) was constituted under Protection of Human Rights Act 1993 Act on 12the, October, 1993. According to the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993 the National Human Rights Commission was constituted for better protection of human rights and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto (NHRC).Protection of Human Rights Act 1993 provides the Commission with functional autonomy as enshrined in Paris Principles. The headquarters of the Commission shall be at Delhi and the Commission may, with the previous approval of the Central Government, establish offices at other places in India.
