Write one exception for each property of matter like solids are negilibly compressed but sponge is highly compressible . I want exceptions like this example that I had given. I don't want definations for each property of matter . Please answer it is urgent .

Dear student

Answer for the above question is as follows:

As we all know that solids have a definite shape, distinct boundaries, and fixed volume, i.e have negligible compressibility. Solids have a tendency to maintain their shape when subjected to outside force. Solid may break under force but it is difficult to change their shape, so they are rigid. But there are few exception to the property of solids, which are listed below:
  • A rubber band is also a solid but it changes its shape under force and regains the shape when the force is removed. If excessive force is applied, it breaks.
  • The shape of each individual sugar or salt crystal remain fixed, whether we take it in our hand, put it in a plate or in a jar. But it looks as it occupies the shape of jar where it is stored.
Hope this information will clears your doubts about the topic.

Example Number 1

Ice - Ice always floats in liquid even if it is a solid as the water forms a cage-like structure when it freezes.

Example Number 2

Sugar -  when sugar is kept in a jar, it takes the shape of the jar and even when we change the container of the sugar, it takes the shape of the container in which it is kept.
