Human blood is a fluid connective tissue specialised for the function of circulating nutrients and oxygen in body and fetching wastes and carbon dioxide from different cells for excretion. Blood also serves as the pathway of interaction between  the ductless endocrine glands and their target organs, as they release hormones into  blood stream through which they get circulated to entire body and affect the target organs. Blood has several other functions like providing immunity with the help of phagocytes etc.
Blood is a colloid in which various components remain suspended in a fluid plasma. Main components of  blood are RBCs, WBCs, and platelets "(cellular components) and plasma (liquid component).

The blood is a fluid connective tissue which plays an important role in supplying oxygen to all tissues and cells of the body and removing carbon dioxide from the body. The total volume of blood forms about 1/12th of the body weight or about 5 to 6 liters of blood. Blood is heavier than water with a specific gravity of 1.04 ? 1.07. It is slightly alkaline in nature, with its pH a little above seven.
It has two major components; Plasma and Blood cells (which further include, Red Blood Cells, RBCs and White Blood Cells, WBCs.)

Blood is essential for human life. The blood volume of normal adults in a developing country is approximately 4 liters. Blood may be described as a specialized connective tissue in which there is liquid intercellular substance known as plasma and formed elements, the red blood cells, the white blood cells and the platelets suspended in the plasma.

The specific gravity of whole blood varies from 1.055 to 1.060. When freshly shed, blood is red, thick, opaque and slightly alkaline. In order to understand the full significance of blood, it is imperative that one should know something about its genesis.

Blood is a highly complex fluid which is composed of two parts—a liquid, called the plasma and different types of cells which remain suspended in the plasma. The cells are called the blood corpuscles. The plasma constitutes about 55 percent, and the cells about 45 percent, of the total volume of human blood
