write the formula of acid and base used to form the folloing given salts and mention them as acids and bases also:

a) sodium chloride

b) potassium sulphate

c) sodium acetate

d) ammonium chloride

e) zinc sulphate

Dear Student,

Sodium chloride (NaCl) is a salt of strong acid and  strong base:

acid = HCl ( hydrochloric acid)

base = NaOH ( sodium hydroxide)

Potassium sulphate (K2SO4) is a salt of strong acid and strong base.

acid = H2SO4 ( sulphuric acid)

base = KOH (potassium hydroxide)

sodium acetate (CH3COONa) is a salt of weak acid and strong base

acid = CH3COOH( acetic acid)

base = NaOH ( sodium hydroxide)

Ammonium chloride is a salt of strong acid and weak base

Acid = HCl ( hydrochloric acid)

base = NH4OH (ammonium hydroxide)

Zinc sulphate (ZnSO4) is a  salt of weak base  and strong acid

acid = H2SO4 (sulphuric acid)

base = Zn(OH)2 (zinc hydroxide)

A) NaCl - Neutral as it is a salt.
B) K2SO4 (2 and 4 are subscripts) - Same as A
C) CH3COONA ( 3 is subscripts) - Base (You will learn more about this is 11)
D) NH4Cl - Acidic salt
E) ZnSo4 - Acidic salt
