**Some applications of trigonometry**- It is a short chapter in which students will study about some ways in which

**trigonometry**is used in life around us.

**Trigonometry**is the most ancient subjects studied by scholars all over the world. Astronomers have used trigonometry to calculate distances from the earth to the planets and stars.

In section 9.2 the topic

**Height and Distances**is discussed. Various terms are explained in this part of the chapter. Terms discussed:

**Line of sight**is the**line**drawn from the eye of an**observer**to the point in the object viewed by the**observer**.**Angle of elevation**of the point viewed is the**angle**formed by the**line of sight**with the**horizontal**when the point being viewed is**above**the**horizontal level.****Angle of depression**of a point on the object being viewed is the**angle**formed by the**line of sight**with the**horizontal**when the point is**below**the**horizontal level**.

**height**and

**distance**calculation is covered.

This only exercise in the chapter is a vast exercise containing 16 questions. In the first few questions, the

**height**of various

**objects**is unknown and students have to calculate the same. In some questions, the

**width**of the

**object**is to be calculated. Other questions demand calculation of the

**distance between two objects**. Some questions are figure based questions.

Thus, to conclude we can say that the

**height**or

**length**of an

**object**or the

**distance**between two

**distant objects**can be determined with the help of

**trigonometric ratios.**
