    Hey Experts,

When finding out the L.C.M of two numbers using the shorter method, what is to be done? I am still not understanding.

Moreover, is there a need to make the denominators equal whn comparing fractions? We can also cross multiply as:

    eg. 3/8 vs 4/6

    Normal Method: L.C.M=24

    9/24 and 16/24.

As seen, 16/24 is greator therefore 4/6 is greater than 3/8.

    Shortcut CM method: We have,

    3/8 vs 4/6

Multiply the numerator of the first fraction by the denominator of the second, and the denominator of the first fraction by the numerator of the second. The products thus obtained respectively are: 18, 32.

As it can be seen, 32 is greater than 18. The first number corresponds to the first fraction and the second number to the second fraction. As the second number is greter, the second fraction 4/6 is greator.

The only thing that you have to worry about in the latter is the order of the multiplication.

    Dear Student,
