A glass rod is rubbed with a piece of silk cloth and brought in contact with a metal pin suspended with a cotton thread. Will the pin get charged? If yes, what will be the nature of the charge on it?

  • Yes, When the glass rod is rubbed with silk cloth, then glass rod acquires positive charge on loosing some electrons to silk cloth. This is called as frictional electricity.
  • Later, when the charged glass rod is kept in contact with mental pin, then the charge on the glass rod is shared among both of them so that the pin also acquires positive charge. This is the process of charging by conduction.
