a source of sound is placed at one end of an iron bar 2km long and 2 sounds are heard at the other end at an interval of 5.6 s. if the velocity of sound in air is 330m/s , find the time taken by sound to travel 2 km in iron and the velocity of sound in iron.

Given that

Speed of sound in air (V a ) = 330 m/s

Speed of sound in iron Vi = ?

Distance L = 2 km = 2000 m

Let t 1 = Time taken by sound in air

t 2 = Time taken by sound in iron

(1)

Δt = t 1t 2 = 5.6 s

Now,

t 2 = t 1 – Δt = 6.06 – 5.6 = 0.46 s
