"Democracy is seen good in principle but felt to be not so good in practice." Justify the statement

Democracy technically means a rule for the people, by the people and of the people. It inbuilts the values of freedom, equality and liberty. The idea of democracy as it is, is very effective and powerful. But the problem arises when the ideas of democracy are misused. Under the name of democracy, many political parties follow the path of corruption. They misutilize their power. Often backward sections of the society are mistreated. Inspite of us having democracy, discrimination against women, S.C, S.T, O.B.C and other minorities of the society are still prevailing. Hence, democracy is seen to be good in principle but felt to be not so good in practice.

1.In a democracy people expect to have their needs and expectations being cater after but because every country has a diverse culture and regions it is not possible to look after everyone's needs.

2. Even though democracy is not simply rule by majority opinion, there are instances where the minority opinion is not taken into account for a general view.

3. If there is corruption then people lose faith in the government and then don't feel the need to vote which isn't healthy for the country because democracy is a peoples' government,

4. Regular elections may lead to change in the ruling party which cause instability and fall of economic development.

5. If people are not wise in choosing their representatives then even though there is room to correct mistakes the country will suffer and so will the people.

principles:
democracies are strongly committed to the principles and are strict on abiding them:
1.hold election
2.form government
3.elcet leader
3.have a formal constitution

when we come to practice it is quite distressing:
1.democracies do not respond to the need of all people
2.they ignore the demands of majority of a population
3.the routine tales prove that democracy is not free frm corruption
3.it lags behind in promoting equality and reducing poverty even though steps are being taken

hope that this suites the question which is being asked
best of luck:):)

it is true to say that democracy is good at its principle not in its practice
democracy is accountable and responsive but often frustrate the needs of people and ignore the demands of majority of people.
if democracy is good govt,it should also achieve economic development. but in practice we can see that democracy lags behind dictatorship in development.
democratic govt is not successful in removing inequalities and poverty
democratic govt ensure dignity and freedom of citizen but still caste discrimination and women inequality is existing

Democracy is best government in pen and paper but the worst in practice . This is because 1. Many people have to be consulted here that leads to delay. 2. The scheme are not implemented properly due to corruption. 3. Democracy often ignore the demand of major portion of population and work on party lines.
