Dear Student ,

Following are the reasons for inequality in India :

1. Caste : In India , Caste refers to the social division or stratification of people or communities on the basis of their occupation. There is a great amount of inequality in castes as they are arranged according to an ascending scale of reverence where as you go up in the caste scale the power and status of a caste group increases whereas as you go down the scale , the low caste people are seen to have no power or status etc. In earlier times, the lower caste were segregated from the upper caste people and prohibited to do even the basic things like entering the temple premises or taking water from certain places which only belonged to the so called upper caste people. Caste discrimination still prevails in Indian Society .

2. Gender Inequality : In India , gender discrimination have existed for generations and affect the lives of both genders. Gender inequality have largely impacted the male to female sex ratio in India. A girl child is considered a burden on her parents and the only purpose of her life is to get married . Due to this mindset of majority of people , girls got married at a young age , were deprived of  the basic education and even the proper hygiene and health facilties. Young girls were married to very old aged men and when their husbands died, they were expected to either live a plain life of widowhood or be a Sati. To prevent the huge burden of dowry , during girls marriage, many parents killed their girl child in fetus itself and this led to a vast difference in the sex ratio in India.
