differentiate between crest and trough with more than 3 points (

1) A crest is the point on a wave with the maximum value or upward displacement within a cycle. A trough is the opposite of a crest, so the minimum or lowest point in a cycle
2) Crest is a form of positive displacement from the rest position whereas trough is the negative displacement .

A crest is the point on a wave where there is maximum displacement within a cycle. A trough is the lowest point in a wave cycle. When the crests and troughs of two waves of equal amplitude and frequency intersect, the magnitude of the wave doubles. When they are out of phase, the resulting magnitude is zero.
