Does transpiration and root pressure occur at night ? ( Life processes - Class 10 )

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

Root pressure occurs or exists at late night or early morning while transpiration does not occur during the night or early morning. It occurs in the xylem of some vascular plants when the soil moisture level is high either at night or when transpiration is low during the day.

When transpiration is high, xylem sap is usually under tension, rather than under pressure, due to transpirational pull (occurs when the stomatal pore is open). In the process of transpiration, the water absorbed by the root tips is excreted out into the atmosphere by the leaves and stems of respective plants to keep the plants cool and to allow the root to absorbs more water and other important nutrients from the soil. It occurs during the daytime.

Hope this clears your doubt.
Regards.
