(1) The given equation is $4 4 x - 3 8 = 5 \Rightarrow 4 4 x = 5 + 3 8 = 8 8 \Rightarrow x = \frac{8 8}{4 4} = \frac{88}{44} = 2$ Hence, the root of given equation is 2 (2) Let the ages of Ravi and Hema be 5k and 7k respectively Then, After four years, Ages of Ravi and Hema will be 5k + 4 and 7k + 4 respectively According to question, $\frac{5 k + 4}{7 k + 4} = \frac{3}{4} \Rightarrow 20 k + 16 = 21 k + 12 [cross-multiplying] \Rightarrow k = 4$ Hence, the current age of Ravi is 5 Ã— 4years = 20years and the current age of Hema is 7 Ã— 4years = 28years
