Given a bar magnet, how will you find the west direction

Here is the direction of current.

Now we can use the right hand thumb rule and find the direction of magnetic field.  Take the direction of thumb along the direction of current. The directions of the curled fingers give the direction of magnetic field. Here the direction on magnetic field is as follows:

First you need to tie a thread to the magnet and hang it like this

the if you observe you will see that the maggnet is suspended to the north and south direction the to your left is west

A magnet usually rest in north-south direction.By finding these directions,it will be very easy for us to find east and west.

A magnet rests in north south direction . By finding where is north and south you easily get to know the other directions.

a magnet has a north pole and a south pole. the north pole of a bar magnet will always point towards the south of the earth's magnetic field and south pole of a bar magnet will point to north pole of earth's magnetic field. once the magnet is aligned in its north-south direction, you can find the west easily.

In a bar magnet the red part is always north, in this case the direction on your left will be west. If the magnet is simple without any red or blue colour, test it by keeping some iron fillings in a paper and rolling the magnet in it. Check in which direction more iron fillings are there, the direction with many iron fillings will be the north direction and the west will be the direction on the left side.

1. Freely suspend a magnet, it will align itself in north south direction.
2. with the reference to north direction (north pole will face towards north direction)we can find the west direction

Suspend a bar magnet freely, when it comes to rest it will lie in North-South direction. After that you could find which is West or East

first I will take a bar magnet and tie a thread and i leave it freely then it rotates then it comes to rest it show north and south direction then we know the east and west direction also.

Maximum iron filings stick in the middle of a bar magnet when it is bought near them.  Bar magnets always point towards the North−South direction. A compass can be used to find the East−West direction at any place. Magnets always have two poles; the north pole and the south pole.

First find the north - south direction by suspending the bar magnet with a thread dotate it you will notice that it always come to rest in North -South direction after that the left of yours is west

One end of the needle is often marked "N," for north, or colored in some way to indicate that it points toward north. West would be the direction that is perpendicular and to the left of the North needle. A compass works because Earth is thought to have a gigantic bar magnet buried inside.

first we have to know the north - south direction of the earth and the magnet then we suspend the magnet freely and in few min. the magnet will show the geographical north - south direction . then we have to face the north direction then we have to turn 90 degree left

And Face to North which one will be your right it will be your West

  • 1
suspend the bar magnet in air
then allow it to rest
when it comes to a completely rest position , it will point towards north south direction
once you get the north direction you can easily find the west direction as west is always to the left hand side of north

you can even use a compass

#1)Mark the North and South poles
#2)Use a copper wire[First Preference] and suspend it freely by tieing it
#3)You will notice that the magnet moves it's north pole towards north direction and same for aouth pole
#4)Just like that, the left part of that particular magnet [Remain Suspended] will be west direction
Hope It Helped ????
