How can you prevent the replication of tumor viruses by using nucleoside analogs? Give example for same

Solution:

Nucleoside analogs are antiviral agents that contain a nucleic acid analog and a sugar. They are used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, hepatitis B virus (HBV), etc. Nucleoside analogs mimic the naturally occurring nucleosides and act by causing the termination of the nascent DNA chain.

For example, nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), the nucleoside analogs used against  HIV infection inhibit viral replication either by competitive inhibition of the viral polymerase or by DNA chain termination. Other nucleoside analogs like lamivudine and telbivudine act by interfering with viral replication.
