how do desert animals survive without water

Animals that live in the desert cope with extreme temperatures and lack of water in various ways. Many desert animals do not have to drink at all, they get all the water they need from their food. Aestivation and absence of sweat glands also helps many desert animals to prevent water loss.

Desert animals are specially adapted to the dry conditions. Most of them do not need to drink water, but obtain sufficient moisture from the foods they eat. Some desert animals burrow down deep to find water. Others are specifically "shaped" to collect water.

For example, the body of the thorny devil inAustralia is completely covered in sharp spikes which actually collect themoisture that condenses in the early morning (or the occasional rains) andchannel it directly down towards its mouth.

camel , as it is called as the ship of the desert , it stores its water into its hump for several days. After it is very thirsty , it uses the water stored in its hump. one more adaptation is , it has 3 layers of eye-lids which help the camel to protect it from the sand when it walks through it.

Desert animals have certain features that help them to survive. Gerbils spend the hottest part of the day in cool underground burrows. Darkling beetles catch the drops of moisture on the ir legs, then they lift them up in the air and let them tickle into their mouths. Camels are of two types : One known as Dromedian has 1 hump and other known as Bacterian has 2 humps. Camels have humps that stores water and let it survive more days.

I can give examples of three type.

1) Gerbills (mouse like rodent) dig deep in the sand, which is very cool.

2)Darklings beetles (insect) can lift the dew drops with their legs and drink it when they feel like.

3) The main, camel have humps (1 or 2 depending upon their breed, dromedian or Bacterian respectively) which can store water or food for more than 15 days
