How many oxygen atoms are required for the complete oxidation of one molecule of pyruvate?

A)2 B) 5. c) 4. D) 3

Dear Student

Correct option is (B).

In Kreb's cycle, complete oxidation of pyruvate molecules take place. It uses 5 oxygen molecules  for complete oxidation of one molecule of pyruvate.
We know that every one molecule of glucose, two pyruvate are produced.
There are five oxidation reactions in Kreb's cycle, which uses 1/2 O2 molecule (means one atom of oxygen). Hence, in one cycle (in which one molecule of pyruvate is oxidised uses 5 oxygen atoms. And two molecules of pyruvate uses 10 atoms (means 5 O2).
