How women in India still face discrimination and oppression in various ways? explain.
Women in India still face discrimination and oppression in the following ways: -
(i) In the field of education, the literacy rate among women is only 54 per cent as compared to
76 per cent among men. It is due to the fact that the girls drop out because parents prefer
to spend their resources on their boys’ education rather than spending equally on their sons
and daughters.
(ii) The Equal Wages Act provides that equal wages should be paid to equal work. But in practice
women are paid less than men even when both do exactly the same work.
(iii) The proportion of women among the highly paid and valued jobs is still very small. Often it is
found that women do more work but their work is not paid and often not valued.
