i cant understand example1 !how is 5.74 greater! please explain!

5.74 and 5.708

The numbers are written in the expanded form as:

Now, both the numbers have same parts upto tenths place i.e.,  .

Moving on to the hundredth's place, 

5.74 has on hundredth's place whereas 5.708 has on the hundredth's place.

Clearly, .

∴ 5.74 > 5.708
