In the absence of microorganism the earth would become a heap of dead plants and animals...Justify the statement

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

Micro-organisms such as bacteria and fungi are decomposers and can obtain nutrients by breaking down the remains of dead plants and animals. They help in the breakdown of organic matter or biomass from the body of dead plants and animals into simple inorganic raw materials, such as CO, H2O, and some nutrients which are used by plants.

If they are completely removed from the surface of the earth, the remains of dead plants and animals will accumulate and the earth would become a heap of dead plants and animals. It will cause the unavailability of raw materials. This will affect all the biogeochemical cycles and overall life on earth.

Hope this information clears your doubt.
Regards.
