Lysosomes contain powerful digestive enzymes so they can digest damaged cell organelles or the cell itself. But suppose, if the mitochondria are not functioning at all and the lysosomes digest them, then how will the cell function properly because of absence of mitochondria?

Dear Student,

The mitochondria (has the ability to self-replicate) that is worn out is digested by the ‚Äčlysosome, and new mitochondria is formed by the process called as mitochondrial biogenesis. If one mitochondria is not functioning, it does not means the cell is devoid of it. The other mitochondria present in the cell will compensate for the production of cellular energy until the reformation of new organelle.

Either the cell will die, which is likelier, or the mitochondria will be regenerated, & cell will function as usual.

FIRST OF ALL MITOCHONDRIA ARE REGENRATED EVERY TIME AND IF THEY ARE REGENRATED IN SHORT PERIOD THAN ONLY THE CELL WILL LIVE ALSO THERE ARE MANY MITOCHONDRIA IN A CELL SO THEY MAY TAKE THE EXCESS WORK LOAD
