meaning of this line

Dear Student, 

The poet is requesting the season of March to arrive gradually. The season of March which brings with it violent storms may frighten the foxes. The newly born foxes are already shivering due to the cold rains. They have recently lost their mother and are crying in pain. So, he was requesting the season of March to not frighten them further.
