One card is drawn from a well shuffled pack of 52 cards. Calculate the probability of getting (i) A king

or a queen (ii) Neither a heart nor a red king

Total no. of cards in a deck = 52
total possible outcomes = 52

(1).
no. of kings = 4
no. of queens = 4
no. of favorable outcomes = 4 + 4 = 8
p(either a king or queen) = no. of favorable outcomestotal possible outcomes = 852 = 213
(2). no of cards of heart = 13
no. of red kings = 2
no. of king of hearts = 1
no. of favorable outcomes = 13 + 2 - 1 = 14
p(either a heart or a red king) = no. of favorable outcomestotal possible outcomes = 1452p(neither a heart nor a red king) = 1 - 1452=3852 = 1926

  • -1

(I) 8/52=2/13

(2)P (getting a red king and a heart)=14/52

P (getting neither a heart nor a red king)=1-14/52=38/52=19/26

Thumbs up!
