please explain the answer in detail

Which of the following will show friedel craft's alkylation?

(A)

(B)

(C)

(D)

Dear student,

For option (A)
Aniline does not undergo Friedel-Crafts reaction (alkylation andacetylation) due to salt formation with aluminium chloride, the Lewis acid, which is used as a catalyst. Due to this, nitrogen ofaniline acquires positive charge and hence acts as a strong deactivating group for further reaction. (refer pg no. 395 chemistry NCERT)

For option (B)
do not undergo Friedel-Crafts reaction(because the carboxyl group is deactivating and the catalyst aluminium chloride (Lewis acid) gets bonded to the carboxyl group). (refer pg no. 376 chemistry NCERT)

For option (D)
nitrobenzene have -R effect due which it takes electron from benzene ring and acts as deactivating group.

Option (C) is the correct answer, as it is the only one which can undergo friedel-crafts reaction
