Dear Student

Ans. Sclerenchyma tissue

Parenchyma is a type of simple permanent tissue present in plants. It forms the bulk of plant body.  It is found in soft parts of the plants  such as cortex of roots, ground tissues in stems and mesophyll of leaves.

Normally parenchyma doesn't divide, but they remain meristematic at maturity. They are capable of cell division if stimulated. Moreover in apical meristem, parenchyma divides.

Two specialised types of parenchyma are chlorenchyma and  aerenchyma.

Type of parenchyma which contains chlorophyll and can perform photosynthesis, is called chlorenchyma. It is found in leaves as mesophyll cells.

Type of parenchyma which contains large air cavities is called aerenchyma. It is found in aquatic plants. It gives buoyancy to the plants and helps them to float.

Sclerenchyma is the tissue that provides strength and support to primary structures such as young shoots and leaves. It consists of elongated cells with unevenly thickened walls, they also make up the hard outer covering of seeds and nuts. Sclerenchyma cells are dead at maturity. That is why they lose the ability to divide or show cell division.
