NEW MEASURES UNDERTAKEN BY D.U TO COMBAT CAMPUS RAGGING
Vineet Chawla, Staff Correspondent
Delhi, 25 Oct 2017: The Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Prof. Yogesh K Tyagi, has announced new measures undertaken by the Delhi University to combat the rising menace of campus ragging. A new Anti-Ragging Committee has been formed, headed by the Vice Chancellor himself and comprising representatives of civil and police administration, of faculty, of senior and fresher students, and of parents. The duty of the ARC will be to ensure compliance with the provisions of the law regarding ragging.

The VC will file an FIR within 24 hours of any incident, and ensure that appropriate punishment is taken against the offender, depending on the nature of the ragging incident. Also, every new student admitted to the university has to sign an affidavit, along with his/her parent’s/guardian’s signature, stating that he/she will not participate in any ragging activities; each student is also given a pamphlet with contact information of the ARC. These measures are in addition to the existing penal code that an offender may be fined up to Rs. 10,000 and face imprisonment up to two years.
