Dear Student,
Since, distance is nothing but the total path length covered by that particle. So, after completing half of the circular path or radius "r" (as shown in the figure)
Distance travelled by particle from A to B = (2πr)/2
                                                                          = πr
After covering half of Circle, The particle will be at diametrically opposite end. 
We know that, 
DISPLACEMENT is the  shortest distance  between initial and final positions of  object .
So, displacement of the particle = Diameter of the circle =
2 × radius = 2r
