Please tell the role and achievement of indra Gandhi during the war of Bangladesh war 1971

Dear Student,

In the year 1966, Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India. The people of east Pakistan (Bangladesh) in 1971 called for liberation from Pakistan. India intervened in the conflict to liberate Bangladesh.
When the Awami League in Pakistan wons majority in the 1971 elections and asked for the autonomy for East Pakistan, that led to 10 million East Pakistanis crossing and infiltrating to the Indian side.
This affected the Indian economy and India asked Pakistan to take back the refugees to their homes in East Bengal. The talks failed and Pakistan attacked India on 3rd Dec, 1971. The war continued for 13 days. During the war, Indira Gandhi was affirmed  in her support to Bangladesh.

On 3rd Dec, a pre-emptive attack on Indian airbases happened. Indira Gandhi rushed to Delhi from calcutta to address the nation. India responded with agreesivness and the war ended with the separation of East Pakistan from West Pakistan. This results into the creation of Bangladesh. It was India’s victory and then announced ceasefire. The 1971 war brought the greatest moments to the glory for Indira Gandhi. She was termed as "goddess" by several political leaders.
