Solution,
A galvanometer works on the principle that when a current-carrying coil is suspended in a magnetic field, a torque acts on it. It is this torque that causes the coil to deflect. The amount of deflection is proportional to the current flowing through the coil.
A galvanometer is used to detect current and not to generate current. Thus, it doesn't work on the principle of conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy.
