Ramu's father is four times as old as Ramu.After 16 years,he will be just twice his son. find their present age.

Let the present age of Ramu be x years.

Given, Present age of Ramu's father = 4 × Present age of Ramu

∴ Present age of Ramu's father = 4x

16 years hence,

Age of Ramu = x + 16

Age of Ramu's father = 4x + 16

Age of Ramu's father = 2 × Age of Ramu     (Given)

∴ 4x + 16 = 2(x + 16)

⇒ 4x + 16 = 2x + 32

⇒ 4x – 2x = 32 – 16          (Transposing 2x to LHS and 16 to RHS)

⇒ 2x = 16

∴ Present age of Ramu = 8 years

Present age of Ramu's father = 4x = 4 × 8 years = 32 years

 Let the present age of son be x years after 16 years his age will be  x+16 years

Years

Father’s age

Son’s age

Pesent age

4x years

X years

After 16 years

2(x+16) years

X+16 years

After 16 years his fathers’ age will be= 2x+32

Father’s present age will be =2x+32-16=2x+16

4x=2x+16

4x-2x=16

2x=16

X=16/2

X=8

Father’s present age is 4x=4*8=32

Therefore the present of son is 8 years and the present age of father is 32 years
