The word cell is derived from the Latin word 'cellua' which mean 'a little room'. An English scientist Robert Hooke (1635 - 1703), in 1665 discovered and name the cells, while examining a thin slice of bottle cork under a primitive microscope made by him.

Hope this lines may help you

The cell theories are developed by Mathias Jacob and Schleiden Schwan.
It states-
1.All living organisms (plants as well as animals) are made up of cell.
2.New cells develop from old cell.
3.All cells are similar in basic structure but their functions are different.
4.The cells depends on the way an organism works.
5.The organization of cells defines it's body structure.
