'एक तिनका' कविता के माध्यम से कवि अयोध्या सिंह उपाध्याय 'हरिऔध' लोगों को घमंड नहीं करने की सलाह देता है। कवि के अनुसार संसार में लोगों के अंदर घमंड कूट-कूटकर भरा होता है। घमंड में भरे हुए, वह किसी का भी अपमान करने से चूकते नहीं हैं। उनके लिए बस यही आवश्यक होता है कि वह सबसे बड़े हैं। कवि ने स्वयं के हुए अनुभव से लोगों को संदेश देने का प्रयास किया है। कवि अपने समय में बहुत घमंडी व्यक्ति हुआ करता था। अपने घमंड में वह सबका अपमान करता है। एक दिन उसकी आँख में घास का एक तिनका गिर जाता है। उस तिनके के कारण उसे बहुत दर्द होता है। तिनके से मिले कष्ट से उसे ज्ञात होता है कि उसके घमंड को चूर करने के लिए एक तिनका बहुत है। वह इस घटना से सबक लेता है और घमंड को त्याग देता है। वह सबको भी यही सलाह देता है कि हमें घमंड नहीं करना चाहिए और सबके साथ प्रेम और सम्मान से रहना चाहिए।

in the poem of ek tinka the writer was standing in his balcony and was feeling proud of him but after some time wind blew and one small dried piece of grass came from the air and entered his eyes that grass was called tinka in hindi. and that tinka irritated the writer very much many people came to the writer to help hime they made a knot in their clothes and blew hot air in it to calm the writer and to pick out the tinka from his and after some time when the tinka came out from the writer's eyes then his proud went out and he felt that to damage or to just crush the proud in himself the small dried piece of grass the tinka was very much big for him.
