The electronic configuration of calcium (20) is given as 2,8,8,2 but we know that the third shell has the maximum capacity of holding 1 electrons , so why iant the e.c of calcium 2 ,8 ,10?

Dear student,

The correct order of filling the electrons in shell is 2, 8, 8, 18, 32, ....

But in the outer most cell only 8 electrons can be accomodated. So it’s 2,8,8,2 instead of 2,8,10.
