Charge for every subsequent kilometer = Rs 4.50
Charge for travelling x km = Charge for 1st kilometer + Charge for the remaining (x – 1) kilometer
= Rs 10 + Rs 4.50 (x – 1)
= Rs [10 + 4.50x – 4.50)
= Rs (5.50 + 4.50x)
Charge for travelling x km is Rs y.
∴ Rs y = Rs (5.50 + 4.50x)
⇒ y = 4.50x + 5.50
Thus, the linear equation representing the given information is y = 4.50x + 5.50
