What is choroid and its function ?

Choroid is the dark vascular layer of the eye between the sclera (or the outermost cover of the eye ball) and the retina.

Functions

  1. It provides a dark atmosphere so that scattered light are absorbed and so as no multiple images are formed.

choroid is the second layer of the eyeball. it is a thin black membrane with a network of capillaries. the choroid is produced into iris in front of the lens. the iris has a circular opening at the centre called the pupil.
the iris may have different colours(black, brown, blue, green etc.). behind the iris the choroid forms a serial bodies with ciliary mucles. attached to the ciliary muscles are the suspensory ligaments. the biconvex lens is held in position by the suspensory ligaments.

the choroid nourishes the eye and also prevent the reflection of light.
