.WHAT IS SEDIMENTARY ROCKS ?

Sedimentary Rocks. 
1. The word sedimentary is derived from the word 
sedimentum means settling down
2. Sedimentary rocks are formed by accumulation and hardening of sediments such as mud, sand, silt and disintegrated rocks       over a period of time. 
3. They are arranged in layers and found over a large area of earth. 
4. Examples of sedimentary rocks are: Sandstone, clay rocks and shale etc.

Due to heavy pressure , the small pieces of rocks called sediments get compressed and cemented together resulting in the formation of sedimentary rocks.
