Any condition which leads to damage to the nervous system and adversely affects the neurons of brain and nervous system leads to paralysis.

Major causes of paralysis are :

  • Damage to brain :It can be caused by head injury leading to accidental damage to barin. Also, certain drugs which can cross blood brain barrier can adversely affect brain and their long term consumption can lead to paralysis. Damage to brain can also happen due to stroke. In stroke the blood supply to brain is disturbed.
  • Damage to spinal cord : Sipnal cord controls the reflex actions. Any injury to it can damage the nerves which arise from it and can lead to paralysis. Disease like multiple sclerosis can also damage nerves of spinal cord and lead to paralysis.
